FAQ's The Digital Library
When can I use it?
Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm.
Do I need to book in advance?
No. You can just drop in.
Do I have to buy something from the café?
No. There is no expectation to buy anything. You will be shown to a table you can use.
Can I take a laptop or tablet home?
No. Devices are for use in the building only.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. It’s free to use.
Who will help me?
This is a lending service only. The team won’t help you use the device.
What happens when I get set up?
We’ll ask for a few basic details, like your first name and what you’re using the device for. This helps us understand how the service is used and supports future funding. We do not ask for your personal data.
We then set up the laptop or tablet for you. It only takes a moment.
Are my details secure?
Yes. The devices use a secure public portal with restrictions in place for harmful content. Some content is blocked, and access is limited to keep people safe when using shared equipment.
If a device isn’t used for 15 minutes, the session will end automatically to protect their security.
You should still log out of your accounts before returning the device.
If I’m entering personal sites or details, will my information be safe?
Yes. No data is stored on the laptop. When you end your session any accounts you have logged into will be signed out and sites closed. No data is stored on the laptop.
Where will I use it?
In the café at The Old Library or in the reading room if it’s empty.
How long can I use it for?
As long as others aren’t waiting, you can use your device for as long as you need.
If the device isn’t being used, it will end your session automatically after 15 minutes.
Who do I ask if I’m unsure?
Ask at the café counter or speak to a team member.
What if the café is busy?
The café is independently run by a lovely couple, so when it’s busy they may not be able to help straight away. They can call on the intoBodmin team upstairs to pop down and help set you up.
Quieter times are usually early mornings and afternoons, but you’re always welcome to pop in – you may just need to wait a few minutes.
What should I do when I’ve finished using it?
Hand the laptop or tablet back to a member of the team. Please give them your name so they can sign you out, especially if several devices are in use.
